Become a City Editor!
Enthusiasm wins the day here . You don't need to be technically brilliant, have a degree or impeccable resume to succeed as a City Editor.
So what exactly does this entail and what are the rewards?
The Rewards first
| There is no cost to you. Being a City Editor is purely a volunteer position. |
We're undergoing big changes here at OurLittleNet. It used to be that we'd sell local business advertising (you may still see some of the right side of this page) and give some of that revenue to the City Editors. That all changed in September/October 2004.
Being a City Editor has no direct financial rewards.
City Editors do it for many reasons. Some are already heavily involved in local charities or other community work. Being an Editor allows them to more effectively communicate with their community and others surrounding it.
Being an Editor is also a great addition to your resume. It shows you are committed to helping others, are a capable writer, not to mention driven and motivated. I will be happy to offer myself as a reference to established City Editors. We all get to know each other quite well here.
What exactly does this entail?
Just ask to run your city site. Even if there isn't one in your area already, your email may be the one that prompts us to support your local cities.
All that we'd like you to do is publish articles of local interest on the web site. Tell your friends and any organizations that you are involved with. Chances are, they can all join in for free too.
Your new access level
As well as your picture on the site, you'll have special access to parts of your site. We've put a lot of work into making it easy to do - previous web site experience is not required .
You'll join our email discussion lists for Editors too, which are invaluable when you have any questions or suggestions. There are lists for technical questions, business (sales and marketing), and for social chat with everyone involved with OurLittleNet.
| The first Editor meetings took place at the Harp Irish Pub in Roswell, Georgia. Great Fish and Chips. |
Your employment status
OurLittleNet does not employ you , so it is still up to you to pay your taxes, health insurance, etc. At this point we don't pay City Editors at all, but that may change.
Getting started is easy
But that's enough of the rah-rah speech. If you're interested in joining us and maintaining our leadership position in truly local city web sites, please follow these steps:
- Register as a member on the site
- Write an article on something interesting to you - your family, hobbies, local event, etc. (no business-related articles please)
- Contact us. We'll review your article and make you the City Editor!
